Dr. Brian A. Gladue | Executive Vice President of Research and Innovation

Brian Gladue, PhD, is executive vice president for research and innovation at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. Dr. Gladue leads mission-driven research enterprises at HSC, while ensuring the university’s commitment to proactive research risk management and compliance. In short, his philosophy is “Transform through discovery and do it with honor.”

In addition to his role as executive vice president, Dr. Gladue oversees the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Office of Research Compliance, Department of Lab Animal Medicine and HSC Next. He and his teams also oversee the five designated research centers and institutes at HSC. He has authored more than 60 journal articles and chapters in peer-reviewed publications and books, and has delivered hundreds of presentations to professional societies and associations. He has been principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous research awards, grants and contracts from various federal, state and foundation agencies. He has served on private, federal and university grant review boards and panels, and holds scholarly awards for his research.

Previously, Dr. Gladue served as associate vice president for research administration and executive director for the Office of Research Compliance at HSC. He also was the founding executive director for the North Texas Regional Institutional Review Board. Dr. Gladue has more than 30 years of experience in human subject research, both as an investigator (hormones and behavior) and an IRB member and chair.

Dr. Gladue earned his bachelor’s degree in biology at Northeastern University. He earned a PhD in zoology/neuroscience at Michigan State University and was a postdoctoral fellow at SUNY-Stony Brook in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. He has held faculty appointments in biology and psychology departments, served as a science policy analyst and advocate for the American Psychological Association and has consulted as a research facilitator for several universities. In his spare time, he is a self-taught artist, avid outdoor sportsman and licensed pilot.
