- Tuition – For the 2024–2025 school year, in-state tuition is $5,472 in the fall and $5,634 in the spring, while out-of-state tuition is $9,769 in the fall and $10,131 in the spring.
- Fees – In addition to tuition, there are other fees, such as an academic resources fee, an academic supplemental and evaluation fee, and a board designated tuition.
- Other expenses – Students may also need to budget for books and supplies, room and board, transportation, personal expenses, and health insurance.
- Student debt – The average student debt for graduates of the DPT program in 2022 was $52,622.
- Clinical placements – Students may need to travel up to 1.5 hours for their clinical placements, and some may need to complete a clinical affiliation outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth area
HSC Financial Aid Application and Eligibility
When financial aid is awarded, HSC is required to take into consideration both your Cost of Attendance and Student Aid Index (SAI). The SAI is the amount of assistance you and your family are expected by the federal government to contribute towards your education during an academic year.

Goal 1: By the end of the program, students will demonstrate competency at or above entry-level in clinical performance, as measured by the CIET.
2024 cohort: 100% of students were rated at 6 or higher (competent for familiar patients, at entry level) and 86% of students were rated at 8 or higher (competent for all patients, above entry level)
Goal 2: Graduates will demonstrate knowledge needed for PT Practice by achieving acceptable mean scores on the NPTE, as measured by meeting or exceeding national mean at first attempt.

Goal 3: Graduates will contribute to solving the healthcare workforce needs, with 100% job placement upon 1 year of graduation and 10% of graduating class entering a residency program.

To qualify for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, applicants need to meet specific academic and course requirements. Admissions requirements for HSC’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program (doctorate degree in physical therapy)
To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Academic requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or a Canadian equivalent, completed prior to matriculation into the DPT program.
- GPA: A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required for both the last 60 credit hours and all prerequisite coursework.
Prerequisite courses:
- Psychology: three semester hours
- Biology: four semester hours
- Chemistry (with lab): eight semester hours
- Physics (with lab): eight semester hours
- Anatomy and physiology (with lab): eight semester hours
- Statistics: three semester hours
All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. These courses should be intended for science majors, therefore courses with prefixes such as KIN, KINS, EXSS, PT or NURS typically do not satisfy prerequisite requirements. A single course cannot be used to fulfill more than one prerequisite requirement. However, distance learning credits are acceptable if awarded by a U.S. or Canadian institution.
Application requirements for physical therapy school
Applications must be submitted through the American Physical Therapy Association’s Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service and must include:
- Transcripts: Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
- Letters of recommendation: Applicants must submit letters of professional reference through PTCAS. A minimum of two letters is required. A letter from a practicing PT is especially recommended. No recommendation letters will be accepted outside of PTCAS.
- $50 non-refundable application processing fee: This application processing fee is in addition to any fees required by PTCAS. HSC will email the link to pay the fee online to the applicant once it receives a completed PTCAS application.
On the contrary, HSC does not require the GRE for admission nor will it consider it in the selection process.
Changes for 2026 admissions to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program
For applicants applying in 2025 for 2026, please note the following changes:
- Prerequisites:
- Coursework must have been completed within 10 years of application.
- The biology prerequisite requirement will now include one semester credit of a lab in addition to the three lecture hours.
- A three semester credit hour course in statistics is now required.
- Letters of recommendation: At least one of the two required letters of recommendation must be from a practicing physical therapist.
Note: These admission requirements are pending approval by the Board of Regents.
