The University of North Texas (UNT) Denton and the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) have formed a collaborative initiative aimed at offering researchers an avenue to leverage cutting-edge high-performance computing (HPC) resources. Through this partnership, UNT and HSC researchers gain access to the robust computational capabilities provided by TACC, along with user support services facilitated by the UNT Denton Research IT team.
This collaborative effort aims to empower researchers with enhanced computational resources and comprehensive assistance, fostering an environment conducive to advanced and impactful research endeavors.
Here is the step-by-step guide on how to access this fee-for-use resource
To begin, click here to create an account on the TACC system if you don't already have one, following the provided instructions on the portal.
Once you have a TACC account, follow these steps to request an allocation:
- Log in to the TACC User Portal
- Select the "Project Requests" tab.
- Click on "Add a Project Request."
- In the "New Project Request" form, enter the following information:
- Project title and abstract
- Project start and end dates
- Project PI and their contact information
- Upload supporting documentation that details the number of CPU cores required for the project; The amount of memory required for the project; Any storage requirements; Any additional requirements or considerations that would help us evaluate your allocation request.
- Under the "Allocation Types" section, select "UNT" as the sponsor.
- There are two types of allocation requests: Startup and Research. Startup allocations are smaller allocations (up to 2,000 SUs) for first-time TACC HPC users who only have limited cluster computing experience. Research allocations are designed for experienced HPC users, that may have external or internal funding, and involve larger ongoing projects.
- You will need to provide your TACC username in the request form.
- Submit your project request.
Once submitted, your request will be reviewed by the UNT Denton Research IT Services team. Approval may take about a week, and allocations are subject to availability. Please contact the UNT Research Computing Services team or researchcorelabs@unthsc.edu for assistance or questions. PIs will be billed using the iLab platform.
